[Crowdfunding] I am making up for mising a month of stories by trying something a litle different

So, as it stands, it looks like [personal profile] mortalcity, [personal profile] thatrainbow, [personal profile] thelinesoflearning and I are getting a house together in the next month. This is very exciting!

What is not as exciting is that, as it stands, none of us work and while I have disability coming in, that's not quite enough to get a house up and running.

So, in attempt to raise funds, I am trying to do a new thing. Or semi-new things. A long time ago I offered to do recordings for people. I ave access to a good mic and amateur sound editing software and will happily read out anything you'd like me to.

I know this is the part where I offer prices for what I read but honestly, anything will do when it comes to help. If it's a signal boost or if it's two dollars or if it's twenty. Hell if it's job leads for either at home work or work in the Tampa area, we will take it.

Alternatively, if you'd like me to write a story poem and read that out loud, I can do that too. Or hell, just have me write something, I'm good with that.

Again, no minimum price or wordcount or anything, I'm doing this to see if I can get the word out and maybe get enough to cover an application fee or two if nothing else.

If you would like to donate, you can through Paypal at or if you'd simply like to signal boost, that would be awesome and I would do something to show you that you are brilliant for spreading the word

Thank you all for putting up with me and I will hopefully be updating with pictures and fun times of cats, friends, and other good times soon!

I would like you to record "so small" for me, please. Note that the poem's licensed under CC-BY-SA and I would like the recording released under the same license.

What's a reasonable hourly rate for the recording and editing and about how many hours will it take you to record that poem?

I have a thing about artists getting paid a reasonable amount for their work, is all.

So. When I get home from work. $10 for the hour you estimate, which is too low to be reasonable in my opinion but it's well above US minimum wage (and you're making a point of saying price is what people can afford). Sound fair?

Congratulations! That's so exciting!

I really like your idea. I have boosted the signal for it on DW, LJ, and FB.

I'd love to have you record one of my poems, if you have a way to post the recording for people to hear. I don't have cash to spare right now, but I do barter; I could swap you publication of a poem of similar length. I'm thinking it would be helpful to record one of the first-in-series poems for one of my series. Do you have favorites?

>> I do have methods of posting the recordings, yes. If you're good with SoundCloud, I can put it up there. <<

That's fine. I'd like a copy for my archives, but it's not for me to listen to (I'm not into audio very much) it's for my fans who like audio.

>> As for barter, I'm good with just poking people in our general direction every so often. You signal boost so much that it's really helpful an I appreciate it so much. <<

Okay, that's fair. I usually do boost for friends' projects when I see them.

>> With what i would start with uhm...No idea. XD My brain is not on but is there anything you've been wanting to hear preformed before or feel would be a good introduction to your work for people who may have an easier time with audio processing. <<

Since I don't have much experience with audio, I'm going to ask for audience input. I know some of them are into this stuff.

There's a set of "advertisements" for Schrodinger's Heroes that are in script format already, short and funny:

In poetry, consider:

"Can She Bake a Scary Pie"

"Welcome to Hart's Farm"

"Shine On"

"Cut to the Quick"

"The Steamsmith"

"A Different Beat"

How long to read prose?

My first posted piece in /years/ is up - "A Good Neighbor", but I don't know how long it'll take to read/record in sections. There are five parts, each shorter than 850 words, some only 520+ (word counts are in each header). Could you tell me how long it'll take to record the shortest and longest parts?

Cool! Here via YsabetWordsmith

I don't need any recording done -- in fact I need to get back into doing my own -- but I'd be happy to swap tips and encouragement.

Top tip -- get yourself a copy of Audacity if you aren't already using it. Open source and cross-platform.

Yay! I've been thinking of giving Ardour a try, but it looks more complicated than I need. I did a CD on Audacity.

How long are you looking to go? I unfortunately have no money at the moment, but I do have stories that could be read (I was thinking specifically of Jessamine; that seems like it might be up your alley), and I could link the result from my professional Twitter and maybe-possibly drive interest your way. (I have no idea if anyone actually pays attention to my professional Twitter.)

Could also work as a portfolio piece? I was poking around oDesk to see if there were standard rates I could suggest to you, and there seem to be a good number of voice work things on there.

Er, come to think of it, one-off voice work jobs might be an at-home work lead?

On another note, it is SO AWESOME that all four of you are getting a place together! I'm happy for all you guys; that should be such an improvement from current things. Best of luck for all going well!

Congratulations with regard to the house-ness. I have no requests... Actually, that's not true, but I don't have anything to offer or trade you for. And I'd probably have to ask them if it were okay for someone to record them. So no, no requests, because I cannot provide anything of value in exchange.
